RE: Wondering if there are any "free" overnight places to stay

Hey, you will be in the desert, you can park almost anywhere in the desert. Just go to BLM california and see what they say. One of our favorite places to stay in SD is the strip. Silver Strand State Beach. Make a reservation now. There are no bad spots there. Are you on I-40 or I-10?

RE: Flag Pole Buddy

My DH found that the "Flag Pole Buddy" was too heavy, didn't fit, scratched up our ladder, etc. So he built his own out of a piece of 2" PVC about 2 ft long with a cap on one end. He drilled a hole in the cap for drainage and then painted the whole thing, with plastic spray paint, to match our coach. We attach it to our ladder with two hose clamps. Works great and it can be attached at whatever height is necessary for your rig.

RE: EVDO router

I did it !!! I actually pushed the button that said "Buy Now".
Thanks to all of you for your input. Sometimes a little (bunch of) input makes your shopping more fun.
I bought the MBR 1000 and the 32" Omni antenna. I am really looking forward to having the freedom of wireless. I have it at home and really missed it at first. It will be great to get it back.
Also, on Christmas morning when my daughter gets her laptop, she will be able to access the Internet. There is nothing worse than a present you can't fully use, kind of like not buying the batteries before Christmas, (we have all been there).
I would like to especially thank Alex and Dave and the rest of you that really know these products. Not to mention www.3gstore.com
I really saved on this order. I got the antenna virtually free with the sale.
Will let you all know when I am up and running. Just wished I was going to be here on the island when the shipment arrives to see the difference in signal strength. But we will be on down the road by then. Probably Salt Springs, Florida.
My DH will be thrilled I have finally made the purchase, and I will quit talking about the pros, cons, and options.
Thanks again, Marg

RE: EVDO router

OK, I am online with 3gstore and ready to checkout. I am confused about the connectors though. I already have a CB mount on the MH and I have a wire coming inside from the CB mount. I realize the connectors may be different for the CB and the antenna I am purchasing, so do I need these two connectors?
FME Male to N Male connector
FME Female to N Male connector
Thanks again. Marg

RE: EVDO router

OK, that settles it, I am buying the MBR1000. I will also buy an external antenna.
Thank you so much for your help. All of you! Marg

RE: EVDO router

Ok, so now I am down to the choice of two, the MBR 1000 or the CRT 350. It will mostly be used for email, surfing the Internet, banking, and blogging. I am wondering if one picks up a signal better than the other. Seems that sometimes while camping in the woods, our signal is low. Like now, one bar is all we have on an island in Florida.
I will definitely be on the phone with the 3gstore in the morning. Thanks to all.

RE: EVDO router

Thank you Dave,
I have spent months looking for the router. I checked with Verizon first, they told me it was not possible. I checked with Best Buy and they steered me to the router.
I didn't think to look at RV.net first, I will next time though.
I will be on 3Gstore.com in the am for Black friday sale.

EVDO router

Ok, now that I have learned that there is an EVDO router available, I really need some opinions on the best choice.
Of course, being in the motorhome full-time, we are short on space, but do not want to sacrifice anything to save space. That said, I want to ask you experts (current users) which one of the many routers should I consider when wanting to share my Verizon USB 720 Internet service with my daughter who is receiving her first computer on Christmas.
Both of our laptops are wireless and we share a printer also. So far, I have not converted the printer to wireless.(That may be another subject.)
So, what I am asking is, which router is the smallest, compatible, yet best router available at the best price?
I love this forum. I have received the best info here. Thanks, Marg

7.5 Onan Genset

WE are having some trouble with our generator. After using it almost constantly last winter in So. Ca., we are now wanting to use it again and have found that it will run until a load is put on it, and then it misses, smokes, and dies.
We tried changing the fuel filter and we checked the air filter. Everything seems to be great, except the missing and dying. Has anyone else seen this problem? We could use a little help.
My husband, Tex is great as a handyman, but cannot figure this one out.
Thank you in advance, Marg

slideout problems

Has anyone had a problem with slideouts that seem to be falling? It seems that our slideout has fallen slightly and we are now having some problems with leaking in heavy rain.
Can you jack those up and put shims in or replace the rollers? WE are full-timers, but try not to overload.
Any help or info is appreciated.

Has anyone been to padre island since the hurricane? WE are headed that way next week and need some info on RV parks. WE are not above dry camping, but we are 40 foot and need pavement. Any ideas?

RE: South Padre Island

Jeffe, If I were looking for sympathy, I would have told my mom. Some people do appreciate the info on RV parks.
Apparently you have never stayed in a park where each minute you are scrutinized for your actions. We have been in parks all over the country, and never have we been watched for each movement.
Yes, I am a reader, which is evident since I use this website, I read the rules, but come on, rules are made to protect people from other's stupidity, not everyday life.
Thanks for the post though. Marg.

South Padre Island

Ok you all, I have been traveling since June 10 and I am now headed for South Padre Island. Can you suggest an RV Park there for us. How about the beach? We liked the beach in San Diego. Thanks, Marg
Ps, WE enjoyed Tree Tops Village in Arlington, and Yogi Bears, Jellystone in Canyon Lake, but Admiralty in San Antonio has too many rules, and too many people enforcing the rules.
We were there for a week and we were told 5 times that we couldn't do something. I understand there needs to be rules, but that is ridiculous. One of their officials is out of control!!!
They rode around in carts looking for a problem to get after us for. Like, you can't leave your dog outside, even leashed, while she eats, unless you stay outside with her. Even if you are vacuuming her hair up in the motorhome while she eats.
You can't be dropped off by friends if you park in the space next door for a few minutes. (So our friends parked up near the office and they still got a nasty note for parking near the office, in the visitor parking.)
You can't drive up and down the driveways except for the direction that they specify, even if it is a long way out of the way.
And, your ten year old can't be in the pool unless you are out there with her, even if you are just putting the clothes in the dryer next door to the pool. We are not children.

RV Parks San Antonio

Hi all, haven't posted in a while but need some info about RV Parks in and around San Antonio. I will be working there for a month or so, and have family members who will need a place to swim, do laundry, and generally hang out while I am at work. I have been to San Antonio before and am aware that there are several small towns North of there. I am not against staying in San Marcos or ?????
Any suggestions? Price isn't really an issue, as much as comfort and safety. Thank you, Marg
